To Be One
The Fountain of Love
Jean-Honoré Fragonard (French, 1732 - 1806)
Seek not the Fountain of Love -
Seek not what you think you sought.
The hollow gap eager fill,
But a telling sign of one weak will.
Dare not taint love as puissant solution -
When all needs exceed mere companion.
Dare not ask love graciously give -
When as singular as barely live.
The wanton tangle, the impeccable face,
Define not the qualities of a true mate.
The tender kiss, the starry night,
Define not sustenance nor knowledge alight.
Seek conversations with inner being;
Sip the nectar of history, the fruit of asking.
Seek experiences plenty for growth;
Uproot old perspectives loath.
Seek to sow love in said hole;
Nourish a tree that blossoms whole.
Stand before the fountain alone,
Drink a cup to effort known,
To only seek love when you’ve shone.
