Song to the Masters II: Mozart & Beethoven

Through theatre and stage carry Kochel and Opus,

In victory and death Vienna your eternal locus;

Grandeur less spoken, elegance more vast,

Harpsichord dissipate as piano last;

Talent and labor compositions entwine,

Enduring perseverance never resign.

Hello Mozart, my friend, much more than sheer prodigy,

A carefree child young and whimsical most read;

But truly sensitive sound each piece not once withholding,

Acute human insight tell many a story;

Master of form, capture childhood to funeral,

Your melody past, present, future made audible.

Good sir, Mr. Beethoven, in first notes you strike firm,

Exudes fury and vigor, your every symphony stern;

But truly sorrow heard as the moon draws its veil,

Accompany many a turbulent night when juvenile;

In Elise instead I heard a song yours,

The immortal composer ever ours.

Companions classical to adolescence sentimental,

Passions heartfelt with every instrumental;

The opening that cemented music as life,

Sensitive souls we share each other’s plight;

Struggles meant to determine not destroy,

In notes time crossed everlasting spirit and joy.
